Toxic Holocaust - Parapsychotic - The Dregs

Thursday, 01 October 2009 00:00 Published in Live Reviews

The Vent, Coaldale, AB
 - This one-horse town had a decent good turn out for a punk/metal show in the middle of summer. Kids were showing up long before doors to do the Pilsner warm up in the parking lot, ogling over Toxic Holocaust who were super approachable and easy to share stories with.

Andrew WK - Evaporators - Vicious Cycles

Thursday, 01 October 2009 14:31 Published in Live Reviews

June 23, 2009 – The Biltmore Cabaret, Vancouver, BC
 - Hm. Quite a few white shirts. Wonder how that’ll turn out. Vicious Cycles have all their ethnicities covered: white, brown, hobo, and robot. Quick and fast set, pretty random punkness, a good time.

NOFX - Coaster

NOFX - Coaster
 - Let’s see here, Nofx can still play their instruments, and they definitely still have a great sense of humour, though possibly greater (or worse) than everyone else’s. Nofx are not a bunch of old punkers who simply write about things that happened 20 years ago. Sure, they may comment on things that were popular 20 years ago, that aren’t anymore. And they might follow a formula when it comes to their music, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t aware of the world around them.

Teenage Bottlerocket – They Came From The Shadows

Teenage Bottlerocket – They Came From The Shadows
 - Teenage Bottlerocket does not suffer from pretensions of trying to be original. They know what they are good at, and they do it damn well. You need not even listen to their music to know this. They have had the same album cover for all four of their full length albums, they know that their skull and crossrockets logo is rad!

Sonic Boom Six – City of Thieves

Saturday, 20 November 2010 05:42 Published in Album Reviews
Sonic Boom Six – City of Thieves
 - Truly a punk band that is about unity, Sonic Boom Six brings together musical styles as they try to bring together people. With clever, positive, and intelligent lyrics, they mash together musical styles from punk to hip-hop to ska to jungle beat and beyond.

Bloodied But Unbowed

Wednesday, 07 April 2010 00:00 Published in Underground News

Bloodied But Unbowed - video trailerBloodied But Unbowed , a documentary on Vancouver punk will be showing a Director’s Cut premiere at the DOXA Documentary Film Festival during a gala on Thursday, May 13, in Vancouver.

Bloodied But Unbowed chronicles the late 1970s/early 1980s Vancouver punk rock scene. Vancouver filmmaker Susanne Tabata’s documentary tells a tale of rebellion and music — a fiercely independent scene created from nothing and played out in a microcosm of urban squalor. Told by its surviving stars whose accounts are suffused with both humour and gritty realism — a distinctly Vancouver vibe. A brutally honest story from the streets and stages of the West Coast through interviews, music, photos, and archival performances. Overarching those halcyon days of poverty and excess is the MUSIC — that moved its audience to their feet and seemed to validate their very existence.
